Good Food Meal Kits: Vegetarian Meals This Month

Good Food Meal Kits Vegetarian Meals This Month

We are hosting a series called “A Year Of Good Food Boxes” where we feature recipes from the Make Good Food meal kit all year long, here on the blog.

Although this meal kit subscription has lots of vegetarian recipes to choose from, is not primarily for vegetarians. In fact, MOST of the meals to choose from are non-vegetarian.

But, I order from the whole menu, because making just a few substitutions can make just about any recipe meat-free. (My husband eats the meat, and I customize my plate to be plant-based.)

Each week, I pick a few recipes from the Make Good Food website, and then I add in any extra grocery items we may need to kit out the meals.

Then, we review a couple of the recipes each month and share our thoughts with you here.

This month, we are featuring the Maple Brown Butter Sweet Potatoes with Herbed Tahini Vinaigrette over Fluffy Quinoa meal kit.

May 2022 – Grocery Review

Good Food is not only a meal kit subscription service! Did you know that they also offer a whole online grocery store you can order from?

It’s awesome!

In this “Year Of Good Food Boxes” series, I will review different items from their grocery selection each month.

In the month of May, I decided to test out their Amazon Coffee Blend (Whole Beans).

photo: Make Good Food

I will start this review by saying that I am a serious coffee connoisseur.

Well, I was hesitant to try this blend at first. But at only $9.99 per bag I thought, why not?

Plus, I was sold on the fact the description says it has a “strong & chocolatey aroma.”

The full description from thehttps://healthyfrenchwife.com/goodfood/ Good Food website:

“Amazon Coffee Blend (Whole Beans) Medium roast coffee blend from Colombia & Brazil with a strong & chocolatey aroma. It’s always a celebration when the sunshiny flavours of this complex, intensely chocolatey brew fills your cup. This medium-roast blend is made from 100% arabica beans grown in Colombia and Brazil. Its unique richness of flavour, layered with toasty, nutty aromas and a bright hint of pomegranate, makes it one of our everyday go-tos.”

I got a couple of bags so that I could test it out over the course of a few weeks.

And this coffee does not disappoint! It really is high-quality and delicious.

The beans smell amazing, too. I highly recommend this blend.

BBQ Burgers with Roasted Peppers & Onions

I love an easy meatless substitution meal!

This recipe called for beef, so I just substituted that for plant-based Beyond Meat patties.

vegetarian meal kits beyond burger substitute

Ingredients:

  • Beyond Meat burger patties
  • 150g Shredded green cabbage
  • 2 Garlic cloves
  • 2 Onions (or shallots)
  • Bunch of Kale
  • 120ml Mayonnaise (or vegan substitute)
  • 90ml Sweet, Savoury Honey-Dijon vinaigrette
  • 2 Roasted peppers
  • 4 Pretzel buns
  • 13.5g Churrasco Champ spices (paprika, garlic, salt, roasted garlic, black pepper, sun-dried tomato, tomato, red bell pepper, oregano, mustard, rosemary, smoked paprika, onion, coriander)

If you have a BBQ, heat the BBQ on high, and grill your Beyond Meat patties. If not, heat your oven to 425 and line a baking sheet with parchment paper, and cook them there.

You will then want to pick the kale leaves from the stems; and roughly chop the leaves. Give the roasted peppers a rough chop too.

Then, mince the garlic and cut the onions into round rings.

Throw the onions and garlic into a bowl and toss with a drizzle of oil, ? of the spices and S&P.

Grill the buns Grill the buns, cut-sides down, on the BBQ (or in the reserved grill pan heated with a drizzle of oil on medium-high), 1 to 2 min., until toasted. a picture

Next, you can prepare the slaw by tossing the kale, vinaigrette, and cabbage.

To create an aioli, simply combine mayonnaise (or vegan substitute), remaining garlic and S&P.

Fattoush-Style Salad Flatbreads with Hummus & Pomegranate Molasses Drizzle

No substitutes are needed for this Make Good Food meal kit, it’s vegetarian!

  • 60g Feta

This easy meal is pretty straightforward.

June 2022 – Grocery Review

Each month, we select a few items from Good Food’s grocery line, and use them in our recipes.

This June, we tested their piri-piri sauce, some baked goods, and their health-focused potato chips.

Up first, the piri-piri sauce

periperi
photo: Make Good Food

If you are a fan of Nando’s Piri-Piri sauce, you will not be disappointed by this one!

Good Food’s version is almost identical. It’s a delicious blend of spicy heat and sweet flavor.

I incorporated this sauce into all of June’s meal kit meals, in fact! I also use it in my tofu scramble recipe and tofu stir-fry recipe.

Next, the Gourmet Triple Chocolate Cookies

photo: Make Good Food

These are uncooked, frozen cookie balls that you simply place in the oven, heat and eat.

And they are SO incredible.

I’d say these are a must for anyone who has a sweet tooth, and prefers the convenience of not having to bake cookies from scratch every time.

GoodFood Russet Potato Chips – Multiple Flavors

Anytime I travel to USA, I always make sure to pop into Trader Joes.

We don’t have Trader Joes in Canada so it’s a treat when I get to shop there. I love how Trader Joes has such a variety of their own branded snacks. I would say, that when it comes to snacks, GoodFood’s online grocery store is the closest thing we have to a Trader Joes.

I like to use crushed potato chips in some of the recipes I create for this blog, (like this one) so it’s always good to have a few bags of GoodFood chips on hand.

This June, we purchased 3 flavors of GoodFood’s russet potato chips.

July 2022 – Grocery Review

In July we tested out two flavors of Good Food’s bagels, their cream cheese, and their nougat snack.

If you are looking for a convenient breakfast snack, you have to try Good Food’s bagels! I can recommend the cinnamon raisin and the blueberry ones. If you eat dairy, be sure to add their cream cheese to your order.

Unfortunately, I did not like the nougat snack. To me, it tasted like old gum or a soggy eraser. Maybe that’s what nougat is supposed to taste like?

Either way, it wasn’t for me.
