I hope this hemp bars recipe will be useful for you if looking for a new nut-free recipe to make for lunchboxes, share with friends or as a healthy afternoon snack.
Packed with hemp seeds these hemp bars are nut-free and high in protein and omega-3. Hemp seeds are such a great source of omega-3!
Good for kids’ brains too. To read more on omega-3 on a vegan diet click here.
If you are new to hemp seeds they are delicious and safe to use for children.
You can also use them to sprinkle on avocado toast, in salads, in smoothies or even sprinkled in the kid’s wraps and sandwiches for extra nutrition! My children all love sprinkling them on their food.
Also, these hemp seed bars have dates and oats in them so high in fiber and B vitamins. Making treats using natural dates is so much better for you than using sugar or maple syrup.
Sweetening with dates is definitely my go-to, especially for my children’s treats.
How to make my hemp bars:
Cacao Hemp Bars
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup hemp seeds or hemp hearts
- 1 cup rolled oats
- 1 cup dates (Medjool)
- 1/2 cup coconut flour
- 4 tbsp cacao powder
- 2 tbsp melted coconut oil
- 1 tbsp maple syrup
- 1-2 tbsp water if required to make it sticky
- 1 tsp vanilla essence
Instructions
- Combine the ingredients in a food processor.
- Press the dough in a loaf tin with baking paper. Top with more hemp seeds and press down.
- Place the slice in the fridge to set and slice into bars. Keep the slice in the fridge for up to one week.
The hemp bars can keep in the fridge or in the freezer to have on stock for lunchboxes. They will make it easier for the busy mornings with school children! Budget-wise they are also cheaper to make than buying store-bought treats and a lot more nutritious too.
